blueblack
(2017)

created and performed by Julie Mayo.
recorded sound by Gas, James Tenney, Raquel Bell.
performed at The Kitchen, NYC, as part of Dance and Process.

blueblack is a solo that follows lines of thought and currents of feeling in real time. Mayo morphs the theater into a constructed imprint of the space where the piece originated (a white box with a slop sink) turning it into a preternatural obstacle course that includes half of the audience in close proximity and the other half at a distance. blueblack is a state of urgency, a longing for transformation, and like a bruise, is the mark of a rupture underneath the surface of what we can see.
