In this workshop, we will experiment with solo practice in an intimate, small group virtual space. Culling from my own dance-making practice, influenced by many, both inside and outside dance, I offer an assemblage of many “mini" practices that encourage our bold and spontaneous selves, in tandem with our more conditioned, rational selves. Owning the complexity of getting out of our own way to get closer to our perceptual responsiveness, we'll use a layered approach towards various ways of being in performance with moving and sounding. Working alongside one another we'll share our solo practice as performance, tracking what interests us, while remaining open to the possibility of surprising ourselves. Sharing in conversation will be an integral part of our practice.

Julie's class ‘solo practice as performance’ is a subtle and powerful re-invigorating of the creative process. Soft container, well held by Julie, allowing free flowing conversation, profound witnessing, and an improvisational process of

making with a masterful focus on time. Yes this is all on Zoom, with good quality breaks, high quality listening and doing, and most essentially Julie let us really talk to one another and to really see each other. As close to being in-person as I have experienced during these pandemic days, which also allowed me to be in the presence of my own performance, as well as witness others in that mysterious and visceral state too. — Vanessa DeWolf, poet, improvisor, dramaturg, middle child, facilitator of peer-review
